Why send your child to JLGB?

There are so many ways for children and young people to get involved with JLGB and so many ways for them to thrive when they do, but the core of the JLGB experience is our weekly group structure. Meeting together, week in week out, with friends and trusted adults is what builds the independence and confidence that characterises everyone who’s been on the JLGB journey. We want JLGB to be open to every child in the Jewish community so the first two weeks are always free.

Years 3 - 6

First experiences

First taste of freedom, first camps and weekends away, first firm friendships. Give your child the gift of their first steps towards real independence and start them on a character building journey for life! JLGB is a place to play and grow in a safe and structured, but above all, fun environment.

Years 7 - 8

New skills

Attendance each week at your local JLGB group is a fantastic support to the transition to secondary school. This stage in the JLGB journey steps up the skills development, from first aid to coding to public speaking, giving children skills and confidence that they can take back into the classroom.

Weekly Groups

Be free to explore, play a new sport, go rock climbing, or learn to dance. You can join a band, make a film, hang out with your friends - what do you want to do? We’ll help you make it happen. Your JLGB journey is shaped by you.

JLGB Virtual

JLGB groups moved online at the start of the coronavirus pandemic and our young leaders were at the heart of making it a huge success with jam-packed programmes, celebrity guests and many inspiring speakers on our Virtual JLGB platform. We continue to run online programmes every Thursday, benefiting those unable to get to groups.

Summer Camp

A week-long, fun-filled, action-packed, creative adventure! From abseiling to outdoor cookery, water sports to dance, we've got activity filled days to suit everyone, followed by chilled out campfires and parties as the sun sets. Winter Camp

There is no better way to bring in the new year than with a themed JLGB extravaganza... sports, games, and activities by day with all the excitement and competitive team spirit of the Winter Olympics. Then super sparkling evening live music and productions that anyone can take part in! Plus plenty of time to relax with your friends. Coming soon...

Yoni Jesner Award

For young people aged 11-14 who want to make a difference in their community, there are three awards: Yoni20, Yoni50 and Yoni100. Delivered through schools, youth groups and synagogues, there's help to find an opportunity or placement and you're supported to complete 20, 50 or 100 hours of volunteering over one or two academic years.

Years 9 - 10

New experiences

At this age, there’s a whole world of new opportunities that JLGB has to offer, from voluntary experiences with real impact to the chance to gain the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award in a faith-friendly way. Through a hugely diverse programme and by being a supportive constant in their lives, JLGB empowers young people to take risks in a safe way so they can develop the friendships, skills and attitudes that will see them through the challenges of the early teenage years.

Winter Camp

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award

JLGB provides Kosher and Sabbath-friendly Duke of Edinburgh’s Award (DofE) provision. The Award encourages young people to volunteer regularly, showing the importance of continuous action. Participants must complete at least 1 hour of volunteering every week to achieve the 3 Award levels: Bronze (3 months), Silver (6 months) and Gold (12 months).

OCN Qualifications

Through OCN, JLGB accredits young people in a wide variety of high quality courses, encouraging them to become active leaders. The courses range from teamwork and leadership to organisation skills, from awareness of inclusion and disability, to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how to mentor.

Years 11 - 13

Ready for leadership

At JLGB we believe in the power of young people to lead and make change, and we offer a huge range of ways for them to step up and make a difference. From leadership development courses to actually getting involved in the design and running of JLGB programmes, we ensure that young Jewish people are ready for and confident about the next big transitions in their lives. It doesn’t just look brilliant on their CV, it allows young people to network and create their own future opportunities.

Israel Tour

Get in touch with your Jewish roots and have an amazing time with old friends and new, on what many have called the experience of a lifetime. Equal parts adventure, cultural and spiritual exploration and social action, it's a journey of discovery into everything Israel has to offer and your own potential to make change.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s Award - Gold

As soon as you turn 16 you can get started on the last and most prestigious level of the DofE. Gold is the ultimate challenge and there is no requirement to have already completed your Silver Award. DofE is valued so highly by universities and employers it is often the first thing they will look for on a UCAS form or CV. Both Israel Tour or NCS can count as your residential section of the award.

OCN Qualifications

National Citizen Service (NCS)

NCS is a two-week programme that takes place in the summer. After an adventure and skills week, young people plan and implement a 30 hour social action project. Meeting the needs of both Kosher and Halal requirements, JLGB runs a faith sensitive version of NCS, which is open to young people of all faiths and none.

vinspired Award

JLGB runs a faith-friendly version of this UCAS recognised national volunteering award, for young people aged 16-18. With awards for 10, 50 or 100 hours of volunteering, it's a flexible and prestigious award that looks great on your CV. You can volunteer with as many charities or community groups as you like and if you're already running a JLGB group, you can add hours for that too!

ORT JUMP

Through this mentoring programme for Year 12 students, you will be matched with professionals in your chosen work field - a great way to get a head start for the future and JUMP-start on your career through this innovative scheme!
