Youth Trustees Wanted

Each year, thousands of young people participate in local JLGB activities and take part in a journey of age-progressive, faith sensitive national achievement awards. However, there is still much more to do and JLGB has major plans to expand its reach and transform the lives of even more young people.

Following a recent governance review, new Youth Trustees (aged 18-22) with a passion for change, a vision for innovation, and a commitment to empowering Jewish youth are sought to help take JLGB to the next level.

As a Youth Trustee, you will not only represent the voice of young people but also play a pivotal role in shaping the future of JLGB. This is an extraordinary opportunity for young leaders to make a meaningful impact, bring fresh perspectives to our board, and drive our mission of nurturing and uplifting the next generation of Jewish community leaders.

I am so proud to be President of this transformative charity and I hope that you will be as passionate about supporting the next generation as all of us here at JLGB are.

JLGB supports thousands of young people each year in over 30 communities across the UK, inspiring and empowering them to maximise their opportunities, make good choices and to understand the importance of giving back to society.

JLGB is also the organisation that directly delivers and removes all barriers to ensure a fully accessible and faith sensitive Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, Yoni Jesner Award, National Citizen Service and vInspired Award provision is available in all of our partner schools. JLGB continues to grow the scale and reach of these programmes at a rapid rate and will engage a further 15,000 more young people over the next 5 years through its evolve young volunteering and skills initiative.

Our CEO, Neil Martin OBE and the impressive team of professional staff and volunteers have transformed the JLGB into an award winning, modern, thriving and innovative organisation that leads the way in removing barriers to ensure all young people regardless of their faith, background or ability, have full access to positive activities, leadership training, skills development and social action programmes.

We are now looking to expand our work even further, and to strengthen our Board through a new generation of Trustees with significant experience, skills and expertise to help make our vision for a positive future for our youth a reality.

JLGB is truly one of our community’s Cinderella organisations, quietly getting on with the job of supporting tens of thousands of youngsters for over 128 years, but with your help and a new generation of Trustees I am confident that we can take the JLGB to the next level.

Our Mission...

…is to offer essential life skills and experiences to help young Jewish people transition from empowered youth to engaged young adult. We believe in young people not only as leaders of tomorrow, but as a powerful force for positive change in society today. We aim to remove barriers to participation and offer training and development in a fun, flexible yet safe, structured environment and so enable each and every young Jewish person to reach their future potential.

Across our local, regional and national networks, we live our values by providing regular experiences that enable young people to feel the positive difference they can make to the world around them through volunteering, interfaith and intergenerational projects in both the Jewish community and wider society.

We've set ourselves 4 key goals (including our youth voice goal) that will be underpinned by 3 organisational drivers. While this plan sets the direction of travel we know we need to stay agile to get there, adapting to external events as needed.

Goal 1:

Individual Pathway

Every young person will be able to choose activities, create and record their own pathway through JLGB. Their individual pathway will be shaped by their own unique starting point, interests, strengths and ambitions - whether that's for adventure, personal development or social action.

Goal 2:

Community Impact

More young people will volunteer through evolve. Young people, charities and communities will feel the benefit of a broader range of youth volunteer placements that are more meaningful and more impactful.

Goal 3:

Expanded Reach

Wherever they live, whatever their age, young Jewish people will find JLGB relevant and responsive to their needs as we work with partners across the UK to serve the needs of Jewish communities. We will sustainably grow the numbers of young people who engage with JLGB.

Inspiring Volunteers

We will sustainably increase volunteer numbers and volunteer diversity. We will support volunteers to be inspiring and effective role models and leaders.

Driver 2:

Digital Innovation

We will stay at the forefront of digital innovation in youth provision, to continually enhance JLGB’s impact and efficiency.

Driver 3:

Financial Stability

We will strengthen and diversify our income streams to provide a sustainable financial foundation from which to deliver our strategic goals.

Every young person will have opportunity and support to take part in shaping the future of JLGB and leading within it. We will respond in an agile way to the changing needs of young people because we put what matters to young people at the heart of everything we do.

About the Board

The Governance of JLGB

The Board of Trustees is JLGB’s governing body. It is the ultimate decision-making body of the JLGB and constitutes the formal legal entity of the organisation. The Board empowers and oversees everything from the day to- day delivery of the organisation’s functions to the Chief Executive Officer and his professional team, in addition to a number of Committees comprised of Trustees, other lay leaders and professional staff.

Being a Trustee

Joining our Board will open opportunities for the right individuals to take on sizeable roles across the governance of our organisation. We are specifically looking for for new Trustees with significant experience, particularly in the areas of fundraising, IT, commercial marketing, and strategic HR to help take JLGB to the next level.

All of our Trustees will serve a three-year term, which is renewable and the Board meets at least four times a year. with Sub-committees meeting up to an additional four times a year. It is, however, important that all Trustees are available to the CEO/other Trustees/senior volunteers on a regular basis, and can visit JLGB’s office(s) as required.
