JLGB’s 130th Anniversary Summer Camp: A Sell-Out Spectacular in Imagineland

This summer, JLGB’s long-celebrated tradition of bringing young Jewish people together reached dazzling new heights, as every single place at our 130th Anniversary Summer Camp sold out within hours — months in advance — and delivered what many are calling “the best camp ever!”

Over 750 young people from across the UK — joined by international guests from Israel and beyond — descended on our colourful, purpose-built Imagineland for a week of adventure, creativity, and connection. From the moment the Realms of Imagineland gathered, flags flying and dragons racing, the atmosphere was electric.

Campers embraced a packed programme that perfectly balanced the high-energy with the heartfelt:

  • Epic adventures: zip wires, giant swings, aerial ropes, lake inflatables, Capture the Flag, and It’s a Knockout team challenges.
  • Creative exploration: Skills Clubs from steel pan drumming and breakdancing to circus skills, tie-dye art, and drama.
  • Sports tournaments: teamwork, resilience, and Realm pride — with finals, chants, and sideline banter in full force.
  • Special events: the Imagine-Fest with spectacular funfair rides, costumed themed evenings, Quiz Shows, a Talent Show, and the unforgettable Imagine Friday Night Banquet.
  • Shabbat at camp: Kabbalat Shabbat led by Young Leaders, shared meals, song, and reflection — brought the whole camp together as one family (B’Yachad).

Every evening had its own magic: fireworks over camp on the opening night; carnival rides and games under the stars; the Masked Singer finale; live music and dancing; and the closing night Imagine Ball — complete with DJs, glow merch, and a packed dance floor.

What our campers say:

Zoe, 12, from Birmingham: “From giant swings and zip lines to circus skills and colour runs, camp is non-stop fun — and the amazing welfare team makes sure everyone feels at home.”

Ilana, 18, from Manchester: “Seeing our young leaders grow, take on challenges, and still bring the ruach every evening made my final camp as National Youth President unforgettable.”

Izzy, 17, from Borehamwood: “From capture the flag to the fun fair, every day was packed with energy, amazing activities, and the best vibes — it was easily one of my favourite camps yet.”

Ira, 15, from Southend: “Running the Year 10 group meant creating special moments for my year, while whole-camp entertainments brought everyone together in an incredible atmosphere.”

What our participants' parents say:

Parent from Borehamwood: “I am in awe of the dedication, care and attention to detail that goes into running such a huge camp for hundreds of young people of all ages.”

Parent from Manchester: “Thank you again and credit to the whole team for everything you do for our kids, who more than ever need a safe space to understand what it means to be loud and proud Jews.”

But beyond the fun, JLGB Summer Camp 2025 was about values and belonging. From inspiring talks and social action workshops to inclusive programming for every age group — including clubs for first-timers and late-night socials for Year 10 participants — the week built friendships, boosted confidence, and strengthened Jewish identity.

Camp also honoured JLGB’s past and future, with visits from community legends — including JLGB President Lord Levy — and 100-year-old Normandy veteran Mervyn Kersh, who first joined JLGB aged 9. Leaders past and present joined together to mark our movement’s remarkable 130-year journey.

Neil Martin OBE, JLGB Chief Executive, who took the helm for this milestone year, said:

“This was a camp for the history books. Not only did we sell out in hours, but the spirit, togetherness, and sheer joy from our young people and volunteers was extraordinary. JLGB has always stepped up in times of need as our 130 years of history proudly show — from the World Wars to JLGB Virtual during lockdown — and this summer’s Imagineland proved that in these uncertain times, our mission to inspire, empower, and unite young British Jews is as vital as ever. Together, we’re building a brighter future.”

Supported by our incredible team of volunteers and staff, and backed by a host of community partners, JLGB Summer Camp 2025 was more than just a holiday — it was a movement in action: modern, inclusive, and rooted in tradition, values, and hope.

This was JLGB at 130 — and the future has never looked brighter.
