Disclosure and Barring Service Checks

All leaders are required to complete and have a satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check - previously known as a CRB. Please complete the application form online following the details below.

Update Service

To login to the DBS Update Service and check if your subscription is still active, please visit https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/crsc/subscriber.

If you have an active DBS Update Service subscription you may not be required to complete a new application. You should be able to find your Update Service ID by searching for emails from donotreply@dbs.gov.uk. This usually starts with a letter C followed by approx. 10 digits.

If you have an active DBS Update Service subscription, please email hello@jlgb.org with your Certificate Number (this usualy starts with the digits 00). We may also ask to see a copy of your printed certificate and validate your ID.

If you do not have an active Update Service subscription, or have never compeleted a DBS check previously, please follow the instructions below.

Completing Your Application

Please read all of the instructions below and then press 'BEGIN' to start your application.

  • Click 'Begin' below
  • This will take you to the uCheck Applicant Portal
  • Complete your application using the notes on the right hand side of the screen for guidance.
  • Once you have completed the form and submitted it to uCheck, you will need to complete your identity verification with JLGB, please see details below.
  • Please note that for volunteers, and once your DBS Certificate has been processed, JLGB will, on your behalf, sign up to the DBS Update Service (which is free for volunteers) at https://secure.crbonline.gov.uk/crsc/apply. This will allow JLGB and other organisations with your permission to check that nothing has changed on your certificate.

Identity Verification

You will now be required to have your identity verified by JLGB in accordance with the DBS ID guidelines. You must provide 3 forms of ID, at least one of which must confirm your current address. Please refer to the DBS list of acceptable identification at www.gov.uk/criminal-record-check-documents.

* JLGB recommends that original documents are sent by recorded delivery - JLGB will not be responsible for documents lost or damaged in transit.
