Transforming Leadership and Progression at JLGB

JLGB is proud to announce a transformative approach to our management and leadership structure, a significant evolution resulting from comprehensive consultation with our volunteers and young leaders. This initiative is designed to enhance our impact and efficiency at every level, marking a new chapter in our commitment to empowering young Jewish people across the UK.

Introducing Our Revamped Management Team

Our new management framework brings together a dynamic team of dedicated leaders, each with a unique role in steering our shared vision forward:

The pinnacle of our structure, the new National Volunteer Executive Committee, chaired by the JLGB Chief Executive, and supported by national HQ professionals, will be instrumental in planning and guiding all aspects of JLGB's operations, from local groups to national initiatives.

Four new National Execs have been chosen to lead four key divisions, each with its own team within the new framework, allowing volunteers and staff of all levels to actively contribute in specialized areas, ensuring that every aspect of JLGB benefits from dedicated expertise and passion.

Our new National Execs are:

Linda Diamond MBE, Local Group Support Lead, bringing a wealth of experience, Linda will be your primary contact for support and guidance in local group activities. Linda will be ably assisted administratively by Ethan Fox, with DJ Hansen and the engagement team helping grow numbers with targeted recruitment and regeneration drives.

Jess Schwartz, leading on Well-being, this team will oversee our comprehensive approach to medical, welfare, and inclusion, ensuring every member and volunteer feels supported and valued.  The team will comprise, Josh Neuman and Josh Shelley heading Medical, Rosie Haftel and Emily Diamond coordinating Welfare and Jess Shine will support any inclusion needs.

Jamie King, leading Training, Development and Progression, will focus on the personal growth and enrichment of our amazing and dedicated volunteers. Supporting Jamie will be Sam Steinberg who will help pilot and develop our new Junior Adult Leaders (JLs) Course, with Simone Silver and Aviva Sandler continuing to support young leaders alongside Lavie Rabinovitz and Emma Morris and the Youth Leadership Development team for members training.

Alex Diamond, Events and Social Team Lead, will bring a dynamic approach to our events and social engagements, promising a calendar filled with memorable and impactful experiences. Supporting Alex will be Ellie Palmer, Alice Brostoff and Sarah Kay on age-based social and fundraising events.

Ruby Frankel, National Youth President, alongside her team, will drive the inspiration and empowerment of our young leaders, and be the voice and representative of young people for JLGB, continuing the legacy of excellence left by her previous leaders.

A Simplified Progression Framework

In parallel with our management restructuring, we are introducing a Leader Progression Framework, ensuring a clear and rewarding journey for our adult volunteers.

This simplified structured pathway is tailored to foster the growth of our volunteers, empowering them to excel in their roles and make a significant difference in the lives of young Jewish people.

The picture below shows the new progression framework for adult volunteers as of 5th Dec 2023

Year 1: Laying the Foundations

The journey for new JLGB leaders begins with foundational training in key areas including leadership, teamwork, communication, personal development, first aid, and safeguarding. This critical first year focuses on equipping our leaders with the essential skills required for effective group management and activity delivery. Each new leader will also be paired with an experienced mentor, ensuring personalised guidance and support as they navigate the initial phase of their leadership journey.

Year 2: Expanding Skills and Knowledge

In the second year, our leaders build upon their foundational training, delving deeper into areas crucial for the holistic development of our members. This includes risk assessment, event planning, inclusion and welfare support, and mentoring skills. This level is designed to broaden the understanding and capabilities of our leaders, enabling them to contribute more effectively to the diverse needs of our groups.

Year 3: Specialisation and Career Enhancement

As senior youth workers, our leaders in Year 3 are presented with opportunities to specialise in areas aligned with their interests and skills. Specialisations such as A/V equipment, catering, mental health, first aid, and bandsman skills not only enhance the group experience but also contribute to the personal and professional development of our leaders. Continuous Professional Development (CPD) sessions are integrated into this year, offering valuable insights and skills that are beneficial both within and outside JLGB.

Team Roles and Managerial Opportunities

Beyond the three-year progression, volunteers have the opportunity to join various teams, contributing to the betterment of JLGB in areas like local group improvement, event planning, or camp delivery. With a wide array of roles available, volunteers can find their niche and thrive.

For those aspiring to take a step further, a new Manager’s Course is in development that will open doors to leadership positions. This includes leading national, regional, and local teams across various domains, such as training, welfare, social events, and potentially running their own local group. This progression not only reflects the growth of our volunteers but also ensures that JLGB's leadership pipeline remains robust and dynamic.

Our structure and framework cater to every stage of a volunteer's journey with JLGB. From initial training as a new volunteer to the potential of joining the National Executive Committee, each step is designed to empower and recognize the vital role our volunteers play in shaping the future of our members.

For over 125 years, young Jewish people have been discovering just how brilliant they can be and how they can make the world a better place through JLGB. Whether you're 8 or 18, whatever you want to be, join in and be your best self with us!
