Plans Afoot for Expansion of

First World War Project

Following the hugely successful 'We Were There Too' campaign in London to unearth and record stories of Jewish involvement in the First World War, the project plans are in place to expand to the North West of England.

This fantastic Heritage Lottery funded project in London was created to preserve the Jewish involvement in the First World War and is ensuring that the contribution of British Jews is safely recorded in an online archive. Through conversations with relatives and uncovering artefacts including letters and ration cards, this project immortalises British Jewish soldiers, including the 535 JLGB (formerly JLB) members and leaders that were killed in the First World War.

The archive includes records and stories, both from those who served and made the ultimate sacrifice and the people and communities who were also affected. In particular, the stories of women, nurses and those who served in auxiliary service.

Become a trained archive volunteer!
Volunteer to research and save more stories through evolve, JLGB’s youth volunteering and skills initiative, to help ensure that the sacrifice of the Jews of the First World War is remembered eternally. It only takes about half an hour to research and document one record. This can either be done from the JLGB office or from home and full training will be given. Honour the sacrifice and bravery of the 535 JLB members by volunteering your time today.
