We Were There Too Launch Student Friendly Educational Resource

JLGB partner, the Heritage Lottery Funded project We Were There Too, are proud to launch a new educational resource containing the entire collection of the records they have preserved. The resource is streamlined, school safe and a vital addition to the effort to preserve the Jewish impact in the First World War.

This new educational resource, featured on the London Grid for Learning will allow Jewish students to discover more about the 50,000+ British Jews who served in the Armed Forces, the Jewish men and women who worked in nursing and auxiliary services on the Home Front and children whose lives were affected by the conflict. We Were There Too intend for this to become the definitive resource for records of Jews in the First World War and hope that it can become useful for students in all levels of academia thanks to its intuitive and streamlined design. Among the rare collections available to view are two volumes of work from a religion school 1915/16, which reveal how British Jewish children responded to the war through century old drawings, poems, essays and cartoons.

The main website is informative and contains a growing digital archive where families, individuals, communities and schools can upload stories and memorabilia about British Jews who lived through the war period in order that they are not forgotten. The site currently contains over 1,000 'Personal Records', which may contain material beyond the scope of the intended learning focus.
