Sara Cash, 20 Joins Marie van der Zyl as the Second JLGB Representative on the Board of Deputies
JLGB are delighted to announce that Sara Cash, 20 from Bushey, is going to represent JLGB as our second Deputy on the Board of Deputies of British Jews. She will work closely alongside JLGB’s other Board of Deputies representative, Marie van der Zyl.
Sara is currently studying Industrial Economics at Nottingham University and has been a member of JLGB since the age of 8. She has become an extremely influential youth leader within JLGB and from a young age has held numerous senior youth leadership roles both nationally and on camps. Aged just 15, Sara was the lead youth representative for young people of her age across JLGB nationally. She continues to volunteer as a youth leader at the JLGB weekly group in Nottingham while at university and attends the Borehamwood group weekly when at home.
More recently, Sara was nominated as one of the Jewish News’ ‘Eighteen under 18’ faces of the future in 2017 and after attending herself last year, she is now the Unit Head for Jewish Camps USA in Nottingham and is responsible for looking after all past and present counsellors in Nottingham. Last year, Sara was voted JSoc President, and supported 1,500 students across both Nottingham universities. She organised Jewish advocacy events, socials and aimed to make Jewish students feel they had a home away from home. As President, she represented Nottingham in antisemitic events, held Israel advocacy events with guest speakers, including Mark Regev, took part in panels and discussion groups and was called upon to give statements about antisemitism on campus.
Speaking about why this role as a Deputy is so important to her, Sara said that she is “passionate about the Jewish community, especially young people and students, I hope that I can give a perspective that might not be represented already. I am also keen to continue my Israeli advocacy work and with antisemitism being such a big issue at the moment – I feel that it is important that if someone has a voice they should use it. As JLGB is the youth organisation I grew up in and that has done so much for me, it is very important to me to give back and represent it to the best of my ability. I also much look forward to working alongside and being mentored by the inspirational Marie van der Zyl”.
Sara’s appointment is part of JLGB’s commitment to giving both young people and women full representation and putting them at the heart of the decision making processes and leadership of the JLGB.
