Adult Volunteers Needed

to Support Young People

Volunteers are the heart and soul of JLGB. Every week, adult volunteers across the country inspire the future leaders of tomorrow by running interactive activities at their local JLGB group. This is part of JLGB’s adult volunteering campaign - ‘Do Your Bit’ - which invites potential volunteers to be part of a rewarding experience where they will make a positive impact on Jewish young people empowering them to grow into young leaders with the confidence and skills to succeed.

Leadership and active citizenship are central values of JLGB with exceptional volunteers forming the core, which is why the organisation takes special care to invest not only in the young people who take part in the activities, but the adult volunteers who are supporting them. Throughout the year, JLGB provides training on specialist subjects exclusively for adult volunteers so that they are in the best possible position to deal with challenging situations should they arise. These unique sessions give volunteers detailed knowledge and skills that can be referenced on CVs and used in all walks of life.

Volunteer training sessions take place as standalone events throughout the year providing detailed training in specialist subjects for free to volunteers. Already this year, our volunteers attended two fascinating talks to help them support the young people at weekly groups who may be dealing with particularly challenging situations. The first talk, delivered earlier this year by retired law enforcement officer Sharon Girling OBE, discussed online safety and focused specifically on cyber bullying, how to be safe on social media and security settings.

A recent training session, delivered by Keshet, discuss gender identity issues focusing on how young people who identify as LGBT may be feeling and how local groups can be inclusive to support them. The next volunteer training will take place in December and will discuss “dealing with challenging behaviour” delivered by Cascade Training. This coming year will also feature expert taught sessions on young people’s mental health, as well as security training run by CST.

Jo Rams, National Volunteers Manager and Adult Training Coordinator said:

"We have been working with external organisations both within and outside of the Jewish community to provide professional up to date, expert training on key issues affecting young people today including online safety. The training is designed to give our volunteers the necessary knowledge and skills and to bring our volunteers together to share their experiences.”

JLGB feels so lucky to have so many talented and impressive individuals in our ‘JLGB family’ who volunteer, week in week out, to do their bit in shaping the future of the Jewish youth.  We would like to offer our sincere thanks to every volunteer who has made this organisation as great as it is.
