Accreditation Enhances Young People's Assets and Social Mobility

More than 700 young people have completed accredited courses with JLGB over the last four years that have equipped them with the skills they need to become active in the Jewish and wider communities. As a certified awarding body for the Open College Network (OCN), a national organisation that creates and awards qualifications, JLGB is licensed to offer thousands of accredited courses that empower young people.

Through OCN, JLGB accredits young people in a wide variety of high quality courses, encouraging them to become active leaders. While the most popular courses focus on teamwork and leadership, the courses range from organisation skills and awareness of inclusion and disability, to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and how to mentor. These courses are delivered in a positive and engaging environment outside of the classroom that enables young people to enjoy their learning by actively pursuing their individual interests.

JLGB provides leadership training for its own volunteers and for many other Jewish youth movements and charities. Many young people who learned their leadership skills as 11 to 18-year-olds with the JLGB, then go on to become adult volunteers, running weekly group activities and leading courses on residential camps.

Accredited courses with JLGB give young people practical, hands on experience that better prepares them for their transition to adulthood. It is therefore no surprise that accredited young people are considered better candidates for university and future employment. JLGB is proud to have enriched over 700 CV and UCAS applications since 2013.

“Doing my leadership training through JLGB has helped me to be the young leader that I am today and I know that completing OCN London accredited courses is going to help me for the rest of my life. I’ve now got an online record of accredited courses that I’ve done which has been really useful when applying to university and jobs.” – Luke 19

JLGB has access to a bank of over 2,500 ‘off-the-shelf’ modules, from Entry Level to Level 2. In addition, there is the option to create 'bespoke' units and programmes that meet the needs of their learners. JLGB has a dedicated team of people who will help to find courses and modules that are right for learners. Examples of off-the-shelf modules include developing leadership skills, communication skills, teamwork, organisational skills, risk management, safeguarding and peer mentoring.

JLGB has an excellent track record in creating bespoke accredited courses for organisations, including: FZY, Habonim Dror, Streetwise Maccabi and Yeshiva Darchai Torah. Last month, JLGB accredited over 50 young people through Redbridge Jewish Community Centre’s MIKE leadership programme (pictured above).

“Our unique and bespoke accredited leadership training is available to all Jewish youth movements in the UK. The difference that it has made to JLGB Leaders has been phenomenal,” says Gia Nathan, JLGB’s Director of Strategic Partnerships.
