JLGB Celebrates International Women's Day
International Women’s Day falls on March 8th each year and there are so many women at JLGB that deserve a mention but we couldn’t possibly mention them all as it would be half of the organisation. Below are a few wonderful women that we felt truly deserved a mention and whom we are honoured and privileged to work alongside.
The first person that must be on this list is Jo Rams, we are incredibly proud to have so many loyal volunteers involved in our organisation. It’s spectacular that so many people can be managed so well by just one person. Yet, Jo, our Volunteer Manager makes it seem so easy! No task is too big or too small for Jo and she handles everything flawlessly and effectively, along with the help of our Senior Volunteer Coordinator, Adam Shelley. She is a true inspiration that we are lucky to have as part of our organisation.
Edna Terret is next on our list of inspirational women this year. A dedicated volunteer for over 40 years, Edna has been an invaluable asset to the JLGB and it is safe to say that the organisation would not be what it is today without her. Her hard work has earned many nods in her direction, not to mention a certificate from the Prime Minister herself. Thank you Edna, for everything you have done over the many, many years. We cannot express our gratitude enough.
JLGB is full of families and we are one big family in ourselves but there’s a mother daughter duo that truly deserves a shout out. Jo and Yvette Zinger are a vivacious pair who have contributed so much to JLGB. Be it absolutely everything going on in Glasgow, camp or the weekly groups you can count on one of the Zinger girls to be there running the show with a smile on their face.
Marsha Gladstone, mother of Yoni Jesner, the 19 year old student killed in Israel in 2002, has inspired hundreds of children across the UK to take part in the Yoni Jesner Award. Encouraging youth social action in memory of her son Yoni, Marsha has had a huge impact on 11 – 13 year olds who in turn make a difference to their local communities.
Not only is Linda one of our beloved colleagues but she has also been running Redbridge Band for over 30 years and was a member for a long time before that. Linda has shaped many young people's lives over the years, including our Chief Executive, Neil Martin! We are forever grateful for all of the hard work that is put in and for all of the difference that you make!
She may be young but she is an inspiration! Shera is our most senior youth representative, a volunteer, leader and #iwill campaign ambassador. Shera is a walking JLGB icon that we are proud to have as part of our organisation. Keep on doing what you’re doing, Shera, may you continue to influence people always.
Her official role is Director of Strategic Partnerships but in reality she does so much more. Gia Nathan works tirelessly to ensure the best opportunities for all our young people, beyond that some say her blood runs eVOLve blue! AND she is still on time to pick her kids up from school! An inspiration to women everywhere, we could not value her any higher.
Our Director of Communications, Ellie, is vital for ensuring the continued success of JLGB. In the short amount of time she’s been here she has managed to capture the unique essence of what JLGB is all about. From our core principles down to the smallest quirk, Ellie has embraced them all wholeheartedly.
As an organisation, we pride ourselves on having the best of the best volunteers, no matter what age or how long they’ve been a part of the organisation for, everyone is a vital cog in the machine that is JLGB. We are incredibly thankful for all that our volunteers do and know that they’ll keep pushing to be the best that we can possibly be.
