Future Leaders Gain National Leadership Qualifications

November saw an unforgettable weekend of team building, fun and learning with friends old and new at JLGB’s Teen Leadership Development Weekend 2016, accredited by the Open College Network.

The first 70 teenagers from a cohort of 150 15-17 year olds had an immensely fun weekend with friends from JLGB communities across England, Scotland and Wales. A programme of exciting transferable skills workshops, including teamwork, communication and planning activities, was designed to impart a mixture of theory and practical skills.

The young leaders can now put these skills in action at their local JLGB group when they lead the activities for the younger members, in turn building the evidence they need for the qualifications, certificates and final credits towards their further promotion within JLGB.

There are 4 layered levels of accreditation offered, the forth level is the newest that has been introduced for A-Level volunteers, who have already taken part in all the previous levels, and has a large focus on safeguarding, being a leader, running a group and supporting your peers in your role as a leader.

Central to JLGB’s values is youth leadership development and we are proud that so many participants gained Open College Network accreditation by taking part in the weekend and submitting their learnings. The teenagers will be able to use this qualification to build their CV’s and enhance their job, college and university applications.

OCN is a national qualification-awarding organisation regulated by Ofqual and the Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA). With over 25 years' experience of accrediting courses for a wide range of centres, they are a market leader in the recognition of learner achievement through credit-based units and qualifications. Some examples of these modules offered by JLGB are: Communication Skills, Risk Management, Safeguarding Children, Organisation Skills, Peer Mentoring, Developing Leadership Skills and Teamwork Skills.

JLGB has created a top-of-the-range online accreditation system which means that all evidence is submitted, checked, assessed and externally verified by OCN all online.

Our next Leadership Training Weekend is the 27th – 29th January 2017… So if you’re aged 15 to 17 and wanted to develop your leadership skills, make new friends and enhance your CV with real qualifications then…
