JLGB Joins Service Of Thanksgiving For 60 Years Of DofE

We were honoured to be invited to an inspiring thanksgiving celebration of 60 years of the Duke of Edinburgh's Award at Westminster Abbey on the 24th November.

Everyone at the JLGB is extremely proud of our 60 year relationship with the DofE, which goes right back to pilot phases at the very beginning, and all were humbled that the JLGB was mentioned in the Earl of Wessex's tribute to his father, the Duke of Edinburgh. The Earl also noted the record breaking and remarkable service of JLGB adult volunteer Barry Heiger who, well into his 80s, still continues to support JLGB’s DofE Expeditions today and may well hold the record for longest serving DofE Volunteer

Written especially for this service of thanksgiving, new Jewish prayer by Rev Alan Greenbat OBE, was read so eloquently to the thousands of congregants in the Abbey by JLGB young adult leader and Gold Award holder, Daniel Gold.

Thank you to all the JLGB staff and volunteers who work so tirelessly to ensure our Kosher DofE is accessible to the entire Jewish community, all of which is made possible thanks to the incredible support of the Pears Foundation

THANKSGIVING PRAYER TO MARK THE
60TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH’S AWARD

On behalf of the Jewish Lads’ & Girls’ Brigade, Written by Emeritus Chaplain, Rev Alan Greenbat OBE

Father in heaven, we are gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award, and to acknowledge our thanks to Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, for his inspiration in establishing this award in which so many have participated.

We give thanks for enabling us to improve our skills, for the friendship we have forged and for the deeper understanding we have gained of one another.
Help us to perpetuate the knowledge and inspiration we have gained and may we inspire others as others have inspired us.
Set your seal upon our work and perfect it with your blessing, and let us say Amen.

In celebration of our Diamond Anniversary, the DofE is asking its supporters to take part in our once-in-a-lifetime DofE-inspired Diamond Challenge and raise funds to help transform young lives. There’s no limit to what you can do, big or small, if it’s a challenge for you, it counts, as was seen recently on tv when Philp Schofield ‘wing-walked’ to earn his Diamond Challenge Pin. Click here to submit your interest online.

We are delighted that our very own JLGB DofE Manager, Dan Seedburgh, has decided to take on a Diamond Challenge of his own in honour of the 60th Anniversary of DofE. He will be scaling Mount Snowdon on the shortest day of the year – the 21st December. Please show him your support by visiting www.justgiving.com/shortest-day and donating what you can.
