Ambitious Jewish Leaders of Tomorrow to Receive Accredited Leadership Qualifications
The Open College Network (OCN) are to recognise the leadership achievements of Jewish young people from across the UK, following outstanding performance in an accredited youth leadership training programme.
JLGB hosted another in its series of National Training Weekends in Bushey, Hertfordshire on 29-31 January 2016, with a record-breaking turnout of over 75 young people. All those attending took part in dynamic, skills-based training, and will now be welcomed back by their local communities, where their new abilities will be put into action.
These Jewish young people, aged 14-18, are now eligible for nationally recognised qualifications in Citizenship & Social Responsibility, Organisational Skills, Youth Leadership, Teamwork, Safeguarding and more. In today’s highly competitive world, these transferable skills offered by JLGB to hundreds of Jewish young people are an excellent addition to a young person’s CV – and they contribute towards their UCAS applications for further and higher education.
Shera Conway, 16 from the Radlett branch of JLGB, said: “This was the most amazing training weekend I’ve been on yet – and it has already helped me to progress to the next stage of my leadership journey. It was nothing like I expected and I got so much out of it!”
Michael Livingston, who coordinates JLGB’s leadership training programme, added: “This is a really exciting time for JLGB and it was great to see so many young people excited about developing as leaders and volunteering in their local communities.”
The attendees also commemorated National Holocaust Memorial Day, taking part in a ceremony led by two Israeli shinshinim, Adi Tal and Ben Gilad, who are currently on a year-long programme in the UK, working with JLGB and other communal organisations.
Sophie Burlison, 17, from Manchester, said: “JLGB’s own commemoration of Holocaust Memorial Day was really though provoking and powerful. It made us all reflect on and appreciate what the victims and survivors of the Holocaust went through.”
More Jewish young people will take part in JLGB’s unique accredited training provision in November, and JLGB welcomes anyone who is interested in this or any of their other fantastic opportunities to get in touch.
