Major Government Boost To JLGB Activities
JLGB Will Benefit from a £10 Million Social Action Fund
Chancellor of the Exchequer names JLGB as one of the youth organisations
who will benefit from the £10 million Social Action Fund.
The Jewish Lads’ & Girls Brigade (JLGB) have been awarded a significant government grant to get more Jewish young people involved in social action through positive weekly activities across the UK, the Chancellor of the Exchequer has announced.
14 national youth organisations were announced as winners after a competitive grant process that aimed to create more places for young people to join youth groups across the UK.
JLGB was awarded funds to build a brand new team of regional professionals, highly subsidise activities/camps and to create several national campaigns to attract more student, young adult and parent volunteers, to help ensure all Jewish young people have access to high quality youth provision through local JLGB activities across England, Scotland and Wales.

This is a very exciting time in the history of JLGB as we approach our 120th anniversary in 2015. JLGB has been through some tremendous changes in recent years and has proved a phenomenal track record of delivery. This major boost from government now gives JLGB the resources we need to now take our award winning provision to the next level, expanding and creating new JLGB groups and programmes across the entire Jewish community, ready to take on the challenges of the next 120 years!
£10 million pounds will be distributed by the Youth United Network from the Cabinet Office, funded through LIBOR fines which were raised from banks for misdemeanours and attempted manipulation of the financial markets.
This grant supports the Step Up To Servecampaign which aims to double the number of young people involved in social action by 2020 and for which JLGB has been leading the way though it’s eVOLve –young volunteering initiative, launched by Prince Edward and the Chief Rabbi in January.

I am delighted that we are using LIBOR fines to improve the lives of thousands of young people, by supporting these good causes. It is right that money paid in fines by people who demonstrated the worst of the values in our society is now being used to support those who demonstrate the very best and bring about a positive change.

All grant recipients are well placed to provide young people with more opportunities to work on social action activities in their local area. This scheme will help to build a generation of young people with raised aspirations and greater prospects for their future.

We are delighted to announce this allocation of funding to a number of fantastic groups which carry out grassroots social action all over the country and have a track record of unlocking potential in young people. These grants will enable them to attract more young members, particularly in deprived areas, who in turn will benefit from the experiences, skills and confidence they gain as part of these organisations.
