Camp USA
Whilst parts of the UK were in chaos last week with rioting and looting in local towns and cities, over 300 young people from all over the UK, as well as 60 Israelis were making positive choices and having a fantastic time through friendship, adventure, creativity and community activity at the JLGB National Summer Camp 2011.
With an American theme throughout, Camp USA was full of non-stop fun, action packed adventure and full of positive activities.
Activities and Entertainments included: [*] Young singers, dancers, musicians and rappers from across JLGB UK groups and four Israeli communities competed in “America’s Got Talent” [*] The much anticipated Superbowl Final between JLGB Camp USA Team Stars and Team Stripes was an exciting meeting of two well matched teams. JLGB Cheerleaders entertained the crowds on the side-lines and there was an appearance from Superman! Team Stripes won the hotly contested match. [*] In the race to be the next President, the whole of Camp competed in an individual elimination Colour War competition, which tested for sports creativity and team work. The victor and first female President of Camp USA was Emma Rose Posner, from Radlett JLGB.
The JLGB was delighted that Cultural Attaché to the United States Embassy in London, Karen Huntress was able to join the JLGB President, The Lord Levy, on Summer Camp Open Day. Both were impressed and delighted to see, that despite the troubles back home, how much fun the JLGB participants and overseas visitors were having and how much of a positive contribution young Jewish people make to society and are true ambassadors of positive young people.
All those on Camp now can’t wait for the next Camp which will be JLGB National Mystery Winter Camp and online applications are now being accepted at www.jlgb.org/wintercamp.
