Initiative To Remove Faith Barriers Wins Top National Award

JLGB are delighted to have won the Children and Youth category of the Charity Awards 2013, the charity sector's most prestigious awards!

JLGB's award, for removing barriers to young people of faith becoming involved in the Government's 'National Citizen Service' (NCS), was presented by television presenter, Gaby Roslin on Thursday 13 June at the Grosvenor House Hotel. The 700 strong audience consisted of representatives of the shortlisted charities, alongside a 'who's who' of charity leaders.

The JLGB's winning initiative was shortlisted from hundreds of entries in the Children and Youth category. The initiative brought together 90 young people from seven different faiths and cultural backgrounds in a unique NCS model which removed the barriers faced by faith communities.

Before its programme less than 25 per cent of participants said they had more than ten friends of different faiths, however after the programme 92 per cent of participants said they had well over ten friends of different faiths.

JLGB Chief Executive, Neil Martin, comments: "We are thrilled and honoured that the JLGB has won a 2013 Charity Award for our interfaith NCS project and we hope this will help to highlight and create greater understanding for the need of targeted services to ensure young people of faith and cultural backgrounds can access everyday activity, that many take for granted."
