Why did you choose to become a trustee for JLGB?
I've been a member of JLGB since I was 14, growing up as a member, becoming a young leader and then graduating to join the staff. Having been involved in the volunteer leadership in some of our camps and programmes. I chose to become a Trustee for JLGB because I deeply believe in its mission to empower young people and provide them with opportunities to develop leadership skills, confidence, and a sense of community. JLGB has a long history of making a positive impact, and I wanted to contribute my experience and passion to help shape its future. Being a Trustee allows me to support an organisation that aligns with my values, invest in the next generation, and ensure that JLGB continues to innovate and remain relevant for young people today.
Can you tell us a bit about your role outside of JLGB and what you bring to JLGB’s Board of Trustees?
Outside of JLGB, I work as a structural engineer, designing bridges and complex structures for construction projects around the world. This experience allows me to bring a fresh, analytical perspective to JLGB’s board, helping shape the future and strategy of the organisation while ensuring best practice is applied across a range of scenarios. In addition, I remain an active JLGB volunteer, leading teams on national camps to deliver high-quality programmes and ensure our strategy translates into meaningful experiences for young people.
What has been your favourite JLGB moment or proudest achievement as a Trustee?
One of my proudest JLGB moments was running the activities team at Summer Camp 2022, where I organised a huge cardboard boat race for all participants. Each group had to design and build a boat using only cardboard and tape, then sail it across the camp’s boating lake. It was incredible to see the teamwork and creativity on display, and I was proud to link my professional skills with my volunteer role to create a fun, memorable experience for everyone.
