For almost 120 years the JLGB has served our community with honour and is one of British Jewry's greatest unsung heroes. For generations, the JLGB has been inspiring and empowering Jewish young people to maximise their opportunities, to make good choices and to understand the importance of giving back to society.
Today's JLGB is a modern, thriving, innovative and award winning organisation reaching out to over 4000 Jewish young people each year, offering them the opportunity to enrich their lives through a diverse range of positive experiences, exciting activities, leadership training and skills development programmes.
The entrepreneurial spirit of the JLGB and their impact on our community in recent years is truly outstanding. This can be so evidently seen with the 3000 Jewish young people who have taken part in the Duke of Edinburgh's Award in the last five years which we celebrated with HRH The Earl of Wessex. This unique kosher provision, so generously supported by the Pears Foundation, and directly delivered by the JLGB across schools, synagogues and youth groups ensures the entire Jewish community can be part of all that the DofE has to offer.
We were delighted that our community's new Chief Rabbi, Ephraim Mirvis, recently helped launch JLGB's new youth volunteering initiative 'evolve', supported by the Maurice Wohl Charitable Foundation, which creates a volunteering journey that embraces all Jewish young people throughout primary and secondary school and on to university. evolve will enable and equip all Jewish young people to fully engage in meaningful social action, enhance their employability and transferable skills to become active citizens in their community.
There is nothing more important in life and in our community than taking care of our youngsters. Thank you to all those who help make JLGB's vision a reality. Our professionals, volunteers, supporters and parents - together we are all ensuring 'a Positive Future for Jewish Youth'.
The Lord Levy
