Q&A with Alex Toff

Here’s a Q&A with Alex Toff, a former JLGB member who's happy to share his band experiences with you.

How long were you a JLGB member? Six years.

Why did you get involved with the band? I always loved music and I wanted to be part of a close-knit group of great people who had similar interests to me. Also, both my parents were members! I was in Bugle Band that paraded in Edgware.

What did you get up to at JLGB? Apart from music we did sports, drills, went on some great trips, took charge of the younger groups and went to all the camps!

What do you do now? I am a professional drummer and I write music for TV.

Who have you played with? And where? And in front of how many people? I've been lucky enough to play with Peter Andre, Leona Lewis, The Wanted, Bay City Rollers (ask your parents who they are), Gareth Gates and James Morrison. The biggest crowd I've played in front of was 90,000 with REM in Texas and I've played in South Africa, Australia, America and all over Europe. On New Year's Eve 2011, I played on a super-yacht in Dubai for a prince!

Would you have done all that without JLGB? It's highly unlikely. The discipline JLGB taught me really helped with my practising, plus the social side helped me to meet other musicians from all over the country.

Sum up what being a part of JLGB was like for you? It was very exciting, plus it made us feel part of something special and feeling so proud of ourselves when we won competitions!

Have we managed to convince you yet? We certainly hope so!
